Peter Farley - Painter

About me

I initially trained as a Display Artist in Nottingham. I first exhibited my paintings at the Nottingham Castle Open Exhibition in 1973, shortly after becoming a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists. Then in 1978 I moved to West Oxfordshire where I was able to devote more time to painting. I became a member of West Ox Arts or WOAA as it was then known and later a member of the Oxford Art Society. Much of my early work came from visits to France, in particular Menton and the Alps Maritime. I found in that part of France that the colour, light and the old buildings were a great source of inspiration to me. I also enjoy painting in wilder places such as Pembrokeshire or Dungeness where the rugged landscape has inspired many paintings. My great interest though has always been in old buildings.

In October 2012 I assisted award winning Designer David Farley (and Son) as Painting Consultant for his production of La Bohème for Grand Opera Houston, Texas.

I was also Commissioned by David Farley to create paintings for production of “Aspects of Love” Directed by Trevor Nunn, at The Chocolate Factory Theatre, London in September 2010.

Work has been shown in Galleries in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Pembrokeshire and Suffolk 

Works in private collections in France, Canada, America and Australia.
